Basics about Charlotte, North Carolina

Charotte, North Carolina is the state’s largest city and part of the state’s largest metropolitan area.  In 2007 the population of Charlotte proper was just under 700,000.  The city of Charlotte has two nicknames, one being Queen City, and the other Hornet’s Nest.  The later nickname comes from the Revolutionary War, when angry residents drove occupying British General Cornwallis out of the city.  He would later describe the city as a “hornet’s nest of rebellious activity”.  Charlotte’s previous NBA basketball franchise was named the “Hornets” for this reason.

Charlotte has produced a generous number of attractions for its size, and is often compared to Atlanta.  From its bustling cosmopolitan downtown area to many family excursions, you will find many Charlotte NC resorts that suit your needs.

fallleavesBeing positioned directly in line of subtropical moisture coming from the Atlantic Ocean, the city is known for a humid atmosphere in the spring, summer and fall seasons.  However, the humidity is not suppressing like many would describe the conditions in the US Deep South.  The average high in Charlotte is 72 degrees with an average low of 51.
